Reigniting a Collective Impact Effort to Bring Israel to the Top 15 Countries Excelling in Mathematics on the PISA Scale by 2029
When the foundation embarked on its middle school strategy in 2019, we turned to ‘Sheatufim’ to create a coalition of stakeholders to support the effort. Relying on the success of a previous joint effort that concentrated on five units in high school, Sheatufim initiated the formation of a network of partners. Using the “Collective Impact” methodology, they engaged participants from all relevant sectors, including high-tech companies, government, nonprofits, and education. A total of 130 organizations volunteered to join the effort, which included seminars, workshops and conferences. Unfortunately, when the war started, Sheatufim decided to withdraw from the initiative and pursue other pressing priorities.
The Trump Foundation is staying the course with expanding excellence, therefore we immediately responded by convening the collective impact group to ensure the collaboration continues. More than 200 participants joined us in a conference dedicated to analyzing the results of Israel’s top performing students in the 2022 PISA cycle, which were recently published. The conference took place at the headquarters of Amdocs, a leading Israeli high-tech company, where the Ministry of Education’s National Authority for Measurement and Evaluation presented the data. Then, workgroups conducted specific discussions focusing on the most troubling gaps highlighted by the results, aligned with gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic background.
At the moment, and until we find an alternative structure, we are proposing that the foundation takes on the responsibility of coordinating the ongoing work of these workgroups. Each workgroup will be convened by a nonprofit organization that will be responsible for content and administration, while the foundation team orchestrates the sharing of data and joint learning between the groups. We will convene the coordinators of the workgroups for ongoing consultation and organize joint gatherings three times a year. We also intend to rebrand the “TOP15” label to reflect the reignition of the renewed commitment to collaborative efforts. We are proposing an eighteen-month program, with the intention of enlisting additional partners to join us in funding the effort.
