Leo Baeck Education Center
The Leo Baeck Education Center is a school of The World Union of Progressive Judaism (Reform Judaism) located in Haifa. It is named after Rabbi Dr. Leo Baeck and educates in the spirit of his teachings. The Leo Baeck Center was established in Haifa in 1938 by Rabbi Dr. Meir Elk as a kindergarten on Hillel Street for a group of children who had emigrated from central Europe and who lived in Hadar Elyon. Elk, who was one of Leo Baeck’s students, followed the liberal teachings of his rabbi, and besides providing general education, also sought to foster in his students a connection to Judaism, accompanied by the values of tolerance, understanding, and pluralism.
