Transalting Academic Papers on Professional Learning Communities
Translating to Hebrew a Collection of Twelve Academic Papers on Professional Learning Communities for Science and Mathematics Teachers
Translating to Hebrew a Collection of Twelve Academic Papers on Professional Learning Communities for Science and Mathematics Teachers
Over the last five years, at the initiative of the foundation’s partners, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) for science and mathematics teachers have sprouted up across the country. Focusing on student learning and clinical teaching, these PLCs have become a significant platform for teachers’ professional development. With the proliferation of the PLCs, the Ministry of Education designed a new policy for scaling up their budget and ongoing operations. When the Institute for Advanced Teaching is established, it will take responsibility for the systemic implementation and further development of the PLCs.
In the meantime, the Mofet Institute is proposing to help expand the body of knowledge concerning PLCs. They are targeting the experience and knowhow that has been researched in other countries, and propose to translate it into Hebrew. Over the coming year, they plan to translate works of scholars such as Emily Harris, Amelia Rosenman, Selcuk Dogan, Rose Pringle and Jennifer Mesa. Their work touches on issues including the roles of community leaders and the contribution of PLCs to the quality of teaching and learning. The translations will be accompanied by graphics and links to additional sources. Five hundred hard copies will be published alongside an online version on the Mofet website for grantees, partners and the professional community.
