The advancement of Physics teaching in secondary schools is a priority for the foundation’s philanthropic activity. The ultimate goal is to facilitate an increase in the number of students enrolled in advanced learning tracks. In order to do this, it is necessary to expand the community of Israel’s 850 Physics teachers, to develop their teaching expertise to appeal to a wider range of student abilities, and to cultivate support systems for teachers and students in schools.
Nevertheless, relevant data on the study of Physics is lacking, particularly concerning the profile and characteristics of Physics teachers, their teaching and their students. This information is imperative for policy planning and decision making by philanthropy and government alike. Therefore, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Trump Foundation intends to commission an Educational Research Institute to conduct an in-depth study to address questions regarding the demographic distribution of teachers and students, teacher motivations, professional development for teachers and profiling of the schools where physics is taught.
Data will be collected from three sources: the employment survey by the Central Bureau of Statistics; unprocessed information gathered by the Ministry of Education on schools and students; and an internet-based survey of all Physics teachers in Israel, which will be developed for this purpose.
