From its establishment in 2014 and until today, “It’s Time for Education” continues to be the largest digital magazine addressing education in Israel. The online community includes veteran and aspiring teachers as well as others interested in mathematics and science education. In 2021, 433 teachers wrote online content for the magazine, which was read by 54,000 followers on social media and had 41,000 subscribers to the weekly newsletter.
The focus of interest in 2021 was middle school mathematics and science excellence. Articles concentrated on learning skills needed as well as teaching mathematics in real-life contexts. With the return to school following the pandemic, an innovative videocast series of 17 episodes was filmed with the participation of Dan Ariely, Aliza Bloch, Shirley Rimon and others in order to give voice to their perspectives on the new normal for education. The videocast series received a total of 428,000 views.
In addition, as part of celebrating ten years of the Trump Master Teacher Award, the magazine’s editor assisted in the preparation of a book in which winners of the prize presented their vision for education in Israel in the coming decade. Ahead of the PISA cycle of 2022, the magazine produced a series of short videos of teacher leaders in which they explained how to teach high-order applied mathematics assignments.
In 2022 and 2023, we expect the Ministry of Education to adapt the mathematics curriculum to include applied skills. As part of the foundation’s efforts to provide support for this step, we will engage the magazine to explore practices and dilemmas among mathematics teachers who implement applied mathematics in their classrooms, as well as learning from practices around the world. In addition, we expect that the government’s high-tech committee will present its recommendations, emphasizing the need for education to incorporate a high-tech package of five units in mathematics, English, physics and computers, as well as teaching applied skills starting in middle school.
Therefore, the ongoing publication of articles will include articles in line with these topics. In addition, as a result of the success of the previous year, these topics will form the basis of a second series of videocasts which we will produce.
We also strive for a 15% increase in the number of unique visitors to the website, engagement on social media, and followers on Facebook.
